About Du Roi Nursery

Du Roi Nursery is a registered citrus nursery situated in Letsitele near Tzaneen. The nursery was established in 1989 and specialises in the production of recommended citrus cultivars and rootstocks from certified material. Du Roi Nursery is the biggest of its kind in Southern Africa and strives to provide world-class technical support to all its clients, locally and internationally.

1989

Our founder, Abs van Rooyen, bought Kathnic Nursery from Nico Gey von Pittius and renamed it Du Roi Nursery.

1994

Abs van Rooyen, proudly standing beside a three-year-old Valencia orchard established with the first batch of trees produced under the name Du Roi Nursery.

1998

The success of Du Roi grew with a dedicated and passionate team who thrived in customer building relationship and an in-house philosophy of being “soft on people; hard on standards”.

In the Du Roi Group we have more than 200 years of combined citrus nursery experience. Invaluable cross-pollination takes place within the group through the sharing of knowledge and expertise. We believe we have the correct method to consistently produce quality citrus trees for high yielding sustainable orchards.

BENEFITING FROM THE VALUE CHAIN

With the added value derived from being part of a larger group of companies (ANB Investments), including farms, packhouses, technical support and software, and the marketing of fruit, we believe we can add value to enhance the sustainability of farming enterprises through the production of quality citrus trees.

WE HAVE CAPACITY

Our operation includes over 9 hectares of shade nets and 1 hectare of biosecure structures, including Citrus Black Spot (CBS) facilities to supply the CBS low-incidence area. With the aid of a dedicated team of 122 permanent employees, our nursery can produce up to 1 500 000 citrus trees per annum.

TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED

We have invested in high-tech greenhouse structures and heating systems to be able to produce trees of higher quality throughout the year. Furthermore, the entire nursery operates with an automatic fertilization system to provide accurate fertilization for optimal plant growth.

Du Roi Nursery is registered with the South African Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in terms of the Plant Improvement Act. We are fully accredited by the Southern African Citrus Improvement Scheme as a 5-Star Nursery.
